Alla is right. It's in the below rule for returning war captives in the Rules:
"o The capturing terra decides to release you, whether out of the goodness of their heart, or by making a deal with another kingdom. If there are more than two realms, they may also trade you to a completely different herd for their own personal gain"
So even if they had Desert prisoners, they could release an Andarin. Prisoners are like currency really, without a 'herd' value. Tricky.
