I guess my true question is Why did you get involved with OEB's and not just EB's to start with?
True OEB people are not interested in making the best Bulldog they can. They want to make the best Bulldogge they can. We Want to be distinguished from the Bulldog. Thats the whole point.
It's not that we don't respect what you are doing but it is going away from the ideals of what the original breeders of this dog were attempting to accomplish. If you want Bulldogs that is great, the AKC definitely needs more people like you who are interested in healthier Bulldogs. That is why the Eb's got in the condition they were in, because people were breeding for looks and not health. You are proof that both can be accomplished. Its just that we want this to be a totally seperate breed. I understand that you started with OEB influence but why take that backward? Why didn't you just originally start with healthy EB's if thats what you wanted.
I compare this this to people who are so busy "Interpreting" the constitution instead of just following it. To much room for interpretation has been allowed in this breed it definitely needs to be more cut and dry.
I am by no means saying that are are breeding wrong or that you are a bad breeder I am just simply asking why the EB has to be such a strong influence? Its almost like you can't decide what you want. And I shouldn't say you because lots of people feel the same way you do, I am not trying to single you out.
And I know that not all EB's are garbage. I never even came close to saying that. This is not a Who's dog is better competition, it is a discussion of purpose.I love the Eb's too, they just don't serve the purpose of what this breed is supposed to be.
Also you never answered my question about the merle colored Bulldogges or the bloodhounds and I think that is a very important part of this discussion. We all should consider that question very seriously. You also said earlier that "who cares" what the job of the dog is. That is where I guess our strongest point of disagreement is. The whole background of ANY breed is job and purpose. That can even mean that the job of a dog is just to be pretty, and that is fine. But looks were not the background of this breed. It is kind of like a Walking Horse breeder raising horses to run barrels. Why not just get Quarter Horses?
Purpose and function are the most important aspect of this whole discussion.
