Teaching the Fundamentals of Middle Infield Play
What is the Gold Glove Club?
Taught by Major League Infielder and former Round Rock Express player Matt Kata, the Gold Glove Club will consist of 8 one hour and fifteen minute sessions that will develop all aspects of middle infield play:
- developing footwork that is the key to having a “gold” glove (each session will start with 15 minutes of warm-up and footwork drills)
proper way to play catch and maximize arm strength
the basic fielding position
pre-pitch routine and stalking the baseball
turning the double play
Where will the Gold Glove Club be held at?
The Gold Glove Club will be held on Sunday afternoons at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Depending upon the amount of people that sign up, I am looking to have the first session start on Sunday, November 21st and then run each Sunday following.
Do I have to play SS or 2B to participate?
Anyone who would like to learn how to become a better infielder or add some versatility to their game is welcome. Personally, I encourage players to try to be as versatile a player as they can be. You never know when you will be asked to play a different position.
What do I need to bring to each session?
Participants will need to bring the following:
glove and a pair of turf shoes or tennis shoe (no spikes)
a pair of baseball pants (a pair of sweatpants will also be fine, just no shorts)
a hat (you don’t play baseball without a hat!)
jump rope (i will have a couple of extras at each session but I highly recommend getting a good jump rope)
and finally...a good attitude and desire to work hard and have fun!!
What age groups can participate?
The Gold Glove Club will have to different age groups; a high school elite level and a 12 and up level.
How much does the Gold Glove Club cost?
The 8 sessions cost $300 per player. Each group will consist of no more than 12 players.
Who do I contact to sign up?
For sign-up and any other additional information, please contact Matt Kata at (512) 705-4790 or email mattkata@mac.com
