"Yes, I would."
"You would give up your throne for him? He who has caused you such misery, such humiliation?"
"Yes, I would."
Skylar had only ever been to the ocean once.
She recalls that time not so long ago and chills run up and down her spine. The girl remembers screaming….still tastes the blood.
But that was something for another day. Something for a more….appropriate time. Now she was here on duty. Her newly earned Apprentice title had to be worn with pride. She would not let Formaldehyde or her father down. Skylar would be the very best Apprentice she could be. The teachings of her black rose came to her then, and she smiles as she closes her eyes. Vaguely, she felt a kick in her stomach. Hush now, my little one.
She knew all too well the feelings of a displaced family. There was absolution for her, and that was all that she could have asked from Nicodemus. She understood now, and even in her understanding she could not bring herself to hate him. Skylar could not hate anyone, it seemed. He was her father, and that is what made it harder overall. Though never harder to love him. She would always do that. There was a wisdom that he had given to her, and Skylar was not so much a girl anymore as she was a woman. Those who knew her would be surprised to find her now. She understood why he would blame her, and still she was having a hard time without blaming herself. Because still, she felt that this was all her fault. But Skylar was wiser now. It was all that she had asked of him, and she knows now that he truly had done all that he could for her. All that was best for her. And she didn’t care what others would naysay of him.
Nicodemus would always be her loving father, her hero and Knight as he was for so many others.
The girl comes, all paleness and awkward. She moved with a sort of grace that could only be described by those who had seen it. Her long, spindly legs would make it seem clumsy to others, but Skylar had her air. It made every step more graceful than the last. Without speaking she lowers her head, touching it to the ground and summoning one of her famous white roses from the snow, and then her winds spiral around it in a mini-whirlwind of ice, coating the rose and preserving it.
“Hello Epos.” she smiles warmly.
