Marshall was not the wild type, though in his youth he had been. No words just actions and reactions to whatever happened. Acacia reminded him of those times and it was with some guilt that he had forgotten about it until he had run into this deer-mare and she had reminded him of his roots. It was with some shame that he now stood still and quiet, carefully awaiting her to come to him so he knew that he was ok or even to smile at him so he knew things between them was ok. His head was lowered in the proper manner and he looked quietly at her, even stretching out his nose as far as it would stretch so she didn’t have to lean out as far (that was the gentleman in him not his wild roots). When her nose touched his own the soft skin there twitched. He wasn’t expecting the contact but welcomed it and he could see that their scent sharing had calmed her. The muscles in her haunches were no longer tight and ready to flee, instead they were relaxed and so he smiled.
Always smiling my Marshall, sometimes even when he doesn’t know it he is smiling. He loved to smile, loved to make others happier by his smiles. Her smile and her touch both had his heart beating in happiness that she no longer was ready to run away from him and had forgiven his mistake. He dared to take one small step forwards but did not step any closer. He did not try to touch her either, knowing that what they had might just be uncertain. And then she laughed and he felt his heart soar and he laughed slightly too. “Yes indeed. If one is a scholar, I figure one always has to be ready to learn, even if it is from your own student.” He smiled again, raising his head up to where he usually held it, only to smile again when she stepped closer. “I like you Acacia. You remind me of my roots.” And though he might not sometimes like where he had come from he liked that she reminded him of it.
