Renata doesn't know that Lebanon has a son. (Nor, I admit, does she know that Lebanon has had a son with Baraqel, who is one of her adopted father's friends.) And so, like always, we move in strange circles - like recognizes like, and souls travel the same paths, over and over and over again. It is almost coincidental that Renata goes to him, this Scholar who seeks knowledge just as she does, but Fate is a twisted little b###h, and she goes, blissfully unaware of the threads that tie her and his mother together.
"You sought," she says, emerging from the forest like some long-forgotten pagan goddess, all bound up with vines and thorns, leaving dainty, oval-shaped patches of green, green grass in her wake; there is a breeze that stirs her mane alone, that gently buffets the tiny butterfly with vibrant symbols on its wings that soars along at her sides, that reaches out to caress his lime-green mane with an interest that is mirrored on her face. "And I came."
And she smiles, her head tilted to regard Cyan curiously; she reaches out to him, nosing at a piece of his mane without any of the regard others usually feel for personal space. "Your hair," she comments, as if it's not blatantly obvious, "is green."
And then, still watching him, she tilts her head like a child. "Why?"
and hear the ground beneath you, yet you still refuse to see .
