I haven't slept in so long;
When I do I dream,
Of drowning in the ocean,
Longing for the shore,
Where I can lay my head down;
I'll follow your voice,
All you have to do is shout it out!
The Academy.
The home away from home, the landscape was paved with the solid concrete of green grass, sloping and reaching up into small hills that rolled out to the distance. Occasionally, patches could be discovered throughout the area where I had spent my time thinking, or simply watching and listening. One could tell because of the flowers, which stood out of place and yet beautifully, in the midst of the tall and short grass. Blues, reds, yellows, the primary colours were blown in full bloom in the middle of Autumn, the previous rain not dampening their fiery spirits nor dulling their vibrant hues. They were my creations; they were my feelings, they were me. Other than the occasional horse, such as Stelios, or Delilah, they were the only natural life forms that understood my every movement, my every thought, my expressions. Because they had once been a part of my own self, and now they grew individually, free to live their lives rightfully. For this they were grateful, and even when the wind's direction proved physics should dictate otherwise, the flowers would face me, petals wide, radiant and happy.
This was where I stood now, breathing in the last scents that clung to my flowers before Autumn's cold breathed down upon them, neutralizing any fresh smells. At the base of a hill, I brought my blue roan head down to a red carnation, nudging it encouragingly with an absent smile unfolding on my maw, watching intently as the creature grew to the knee-height like the rest of the flowers around it. Surrounded in a swathe of floral essences, I looked up, watching the cloudy sky with interest, wondering just what would happen to me i nthe future. My brow furrowed; I was not to be entirely content with anything, that much was obvious to me now. But I could enjoy moments that passed fleetingly by my nose. Those would have to be enough for now. And so, I consciously looked back to my flowers- that is, until I noticed the feeling.
A horse. She was definitely nearby; but the fact that no aura resonated from her mind. Not the hot accent of Fire, the eccentric snap of Lightning, the fluent agility of Water, caring, consciousness of Earth and open, wistful minds of Air... It gave me the information I needed. This mare was one of no Element, at least not yet, and so she was new to the lands of the Legend.
Slowly I receded fcrom my garden of sorts, backing up carefully and eyeing my family regretfully before smiling and turning to search better for the mare.
I slipped my mind into hers cautiously, though immediately showed I was not an enemy and should not be feared; as I rounded a hill, there was a being not too far away, and I thought with my kindly baritones, Ah, new here? Come, my friend, to the top of the rise, and we can speak properly.
All because of you,
I believe in angels,
Not the kind with wings;
No, not the kind with halos,
The kind that bring you home,
When home becomes a strange place;
I'll follow your voice,
All you have to do is shout it out!
