Corrigan is everything and he is nothing, just like his brothers and just like his sisters. He is a child of the Shadows (quite literally) and he should be a child of the Wind (and he isn’t). There are a lot of things wrong with how his mind works – he thinks – and perhaps that is why he has taken all this time now to come to his teacher. He has avoided the Academy like the plague and he has shirked his duties as a scholar, but that is just how it works sometimes—not all of them can be perfect. Not all of them can be ‘just like Mike’ and this he knows and this he understands.
He is Lacuna, his mind like a museum of mazes and darkness that even he gets lost inside of sometimes.
The first step into the academy brings Cheveyo’s face to mind and, instantly Corrigan freezes before his teacher as his self worth completely deteriorates. He shouldn’t be here, he isn’t worthy. Pure hearted children and Unicorns and things are the only ones capable of being an Oracle, yeah? When he thinks of Cheveyo, he thinks of things he shouldn’t. And it is those thoughts that make him feel as though he should simply turn around and walk the other way.
But she’s standing right there and Corrigan can be quite self-conscious of how others perceive him. She doesn’t know his thoughts, he is invincible.
…Maybe.
“I am sorry.” I can’t do this. And the pupil turns from the teacher while swallowing all his pride. “I’m sorry I’ve wasted your time.”
black peace now
