But she can imagine it.
The Naphtha cannot tear herself away from his mind, from the horrors that are there. There is her Fire, a voice in the back of her mind, that does not want her to get lost. It calls to her, carries her with its light and warmth, and brings her out of the darkness of Dathmire’s mind. It is a horror of a place, and Hypatia is almost brought to tears.
She fears it may come about again. That the Elements will bring about something even more terrible.
They fall away, both holding on to each other, and Hypatia to the warmth and comfort of her fire. There is sanity again, and quiet. Utter quiet. Her mind has ruptured from his, and there is silence again. Silence is a rare thing in Hypatia’s mind; her mind can hardle escape the touches of others, the feelings the possess. She is hardly her own creature, she is lost so much in others thoughts.
But the Academy is quiet. It is peace.
Brave would not be an attribute Hypatia would give herself. Cowardly, fearful, broken, and lonely perhaps. But she is not brave, not courageous. She works now for the Reef, to better her homeland, but there is fear in her body when she stands in the Range. Hopefully they cannot see that. Maybe someday it will be gone.
It is the Darkness they both fear. It is the Darkness that makes them kindred.
Thank you. It is a breath of release, it makes her body shiver. Her flames erupt then, reacting to this voice, and encompass her body. She is on fire then, and a little lion cub whines up at her. “Oh, Kail, I am sorry.” The cub shakes his ruffled head and twines between her legs, playing with the flames that circle there. “Your name is Dathmire.” The Oracle moves towards him again, and her warmth flows from her skin to his. “I am Hypatia, your teacher.” Your float, your help.
“What can I teach you, Dathmire?”
What can you teach me?
