for even to think wrongly
is better than not to think at all."
The new Oracle is lonely.
But here she stands, frozen in time, with her Fire entwined with Air, and her neck around Magnolia’s. She supposes they are friends, sisters. The two are separated for long periods of time, and it is only through the Academy that they speak with one another. Hypatia wonders how long she will be alone. Her homeland cries out for a leader, for something, and so she has come to understand “home.” Yet, she barely knows those around her, and now they come to her, expecting her to help, to solve. And what can she do? She who is trapped by her Element? She who wants the friendship of a teacher she angered? She who only wants companionship?
Hypatia does not say anything. She knows that it was selfish of her to ask Magnolia of that. But, oh, how lonely she is at the Reef! Her Fire dims, but it still wraps around her legs. A little lion cub playing in the distance runs to them. Hypatia dips her head and lets her lips nip at the lion’s body. It meows at her and reaches a paw to put on her nose. “Magnolia, I understand.” Had she not said the same thing to her earlier? “I ask you to meet Kail.” The Naphtha’s eyes meet her friend’s –yes, friend- and travel down to the lion cub. “Kail, this is Magnolia.”
Kail senses the Air, and approaches it with Fire in his eyes. He paws at the Wind, and Hypatia watches him. She will not let her Fire control him, though It gave him to her.
“I ask you for your own happiness, Magnolia. Only to be happy.”
For Hypatia fears something sinister is looming in the distance. They will need eachother then.
