for even to think wrongly
is better than not to think at all."
Hypatia in some dark place in her soul wanted to protect Kale. Not that he needed it; but despite his water and her weakness, she wanted to watch him, learn from him, know him. But this is a moving part of her, so fleeting that she cannot truly grasp it. Kale is a King for the moment, and he is something beyond her. Hypatia can watch, but she can never understand him. She can understand so many other things…but Kale is beyond her.
And that excites her.
Carefully she listens to him, to the rise and fall of his voice. Her eyes flit over his dark, cold countenance. She takes him in, breathes him in. Singularity of mind he says. Singularity. She feels the word, touches it with her mind’s tongue, lets it fill her body. Her fire moves around it, floats above it. It sounds like a solid word, made of earth, but with the fluidity of water. Can he fire handle it? His voice sounds far away, and already she has forgotten what she wanted to do, she is so caught up in her own mind, the word itself. His voice is a lullaby again, and her body sways with it.
“Try you?” She repeats without realizing it. Her rough vocals bring her back to herself. She tilts her head and stares at Kale. She wants to see inside his mind, feel inside his mind. Her fire focuses on the water stallion and it is not scared, it is honed and ready. Barely a breath falls from her lips as she lets her mind move into Kale’s. But she is blocked. She cannot enter his mind, for he is her weakness. “I can’t. I can’t see into you.”
Her voice is sad, because she finally wanted to see what was behind all those masks. Can he sees into hers? And if he does- cannot a door move two ways?
